The factory wheels on Axial SMT10 trucks tend to strip the hubs. I tried the epoxy repair method, but it didn't work very well so I created a bolt in replacement hub.

This hub is designed for a flat 7mm thick 12mm hex. The factory Axial hex is 4.5mm thick and has round extension that comes through the wheel. It will not work with this adapter.

To use this adapter

  1. Cut out the stripped hex from your wheel. I used side cutters to remove it and a small dremel grinding stone to clean it up. Leave the ribs in place as I used them to center the adapter.
  2. Once the hub is removed, place an adapter in the wheel and use the bolt holes to drill pilot holes through the rim.
  3. Remove adapter and enlarge the holes in the rim with a larger bit.
  4. When attaching the hub, you can use 6 or 3 bolts. I used 3 8mm M3 boths and they are holding fine.

How I Designed This

I designed this hub adapter by modifying the scad script "Customisable SLW Style Hub for RC Wheel" by jruutiai. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2201304
