I wanted a small set of containers for my desk where I could put various misc. items.  I have hands from the lucky 13's that I printed, the hex keys for my prusa, gridfinity jigs, etc.  I wasn't going for space efficiency.  I wanted something that looked nice on the desk and could be stacked.  I'm using this for 3d printing things, but they would work just as well on an office desk.

After a couple of iterations, I arrived as a set of shelves that could be bolted into each other.

This could be expandable in the future.  Some ideas I have:

  • Design a plate that could be hung on a wall or attached to a peg board
  • Design a double wide shelf so you could mix and match different rows with different width shelves.
  • Design different shelves that can hold things other than the containers.

To get the setup seen in the photos:

Shelves

The print settings should be forgiving, but I used Stone PLA, .2 layer height, .4 nozzle:

  • main_body X 2 (make sure to re-orient the model in your slicer so the bottom is on the plate)
  • bolt X 2
  • plate X 1

Containers

These must be printed in vase mode.  I used transparent PETG, layer height of .3 with a .4 nozzle.  I notices that the lids fit slightly different if I used different layer heights.

  • lid X 4
  • body 40 X 2  (this is a 40mm high body)
  • body 20 X 2 (this is a 20mm high body)
