This is a tool that holds an apple watch charger and iPhone MagSafe charger cable storage for travel. Both the watch and phone can be charged at the same time

For travel I wanted a convenient way to store my Apple Watch and iPhone MagSafe charges.  I also wanted the solution to allow charging of both devices while still in the holder.  Apple sells a nice device for both with a single cable, but the price is over $100.  I came up with this after many different designs.  While not perfect, it works for me and my attention span was wandering to other projects, so this is it.

It consists of 3 parts :

  • A inner hard piece made of PLA where the chargers are placed.
  • An 8mm x 3mm magnet to hold in the apple watch charger.
  • And an outer softer TPU piece in which the cables are wound into for travel

Design and construction details:

  • The apple watch charge is held inlace by an 8mm x 3mm magnet that is press fit into the base.  Note that the charger attracts one side of the magnet and repels the other.  Check this before press fitting the magnet in-place.  If inserted backwards there is a 3mm hole through the center that a toothpick can be used to push the magnet out for rotation and reinsertion.
  • The iPhone charger is mounts via a friction fit on the other side.  There is a cutout in the mounting ring to facilitate remove of the charger if needed.
  • The outer ring is printed in SainSmart TPU at .2mm layer height.  The supports for this piece are integrated in the design. I have included a cutaway view to show the 5 inner and one outer supports in red.  Once printed, these can be pulled out with needle nose pliers.  Note that supports are not physically connected to the outer ring.  Using the Prusa Slicer, I load the step file to include the supports.
  • This outer ring slips over the inner hard piece.  There is an extruded ring it needs to slip over.  The fit is tight and accomplished by pushing a small section of the outer piece over it and walking it around until the pieces are fully mated.
  • The Inner piece is printed in PLA at .2mm layer height.  I printed it phone charger side down with default PLA parameters and support. Support set to build plate only.
  • I am using a Prusa MK3 and Prusa Slicer.

I am sure there are opportunities for improvement on this design.  I have included the step files for you to modify as desired.
