I always failed in correctly sharpening my chisels, so i thought of a method to always sharpen correctly without spending > 100 bucks for veritas tool.

I came up with this solution.

You need:

  • Diamond Stone / Wetstone
    I took the SHARPAL 156N
  • 2 Linear Rails
I took MGN12H 300 mm from Aliexpress (8 USD each)
  • 8 times M3 x 8 mm countersunk screw
  • Some wood
  • 4 wood screws

From wood you need to make a baseplate as big as you like and the bar. The bar needs to be exactly 45 mm wide (the parts provided offer a 45,2 mm gap for good fit and easy movement). Make it as long as you need. It makes sense to have the bar longer than the baseplate to use the full width of your sharpening stone.

  1. Screw the linear rail adapters on the sliders
  2. Screw the adapter in the wooden bar (short side first!) with screws towards inside
  3. Screw the linear rail on the baseplate
  4. Position the other linear rail and adapter
  5. Screw the adapter to the wooden bar with screws towards outside
  6. Move the Bar to the one very end and screw the linear rail to the baseplate, then move it ti the other end and screw it as well
  7. Screw/put your sharpening stone in the center
  8. Put the guide for the required angle on top
  9. Create perfect sharpening results!

The angled guide can be moved left and right on the wooden bar to use the full width of your sharpening stone. It provides a 90° Angle with the end-stop and the required angle in front.

The length of the bar and the height depend on your sharpening stone. It is easily adaptable!

Currently you find folowing sliders:

  • 25 degrees for chisels, planers and stuff
  • 30 degrees for adding a micro bevel
  • 15 degrees meant for kitchen knifes.

It other angles are requested please feeld free to ask me!

Happy sharpening!
