RFID scanner/writer for PC/Mac - based on Raspberry Pi zero and RC522 RFID.

A quality USB RFID code reader/writer costs over $220. This system costs less than $20.

You will need:

  1. Raspberry Pi Zero (W)
  2.  RFID-RC522 expansion module
  3.  Pi Zero USB Adapter, Additional USB-A Connector for Zero from Waveshare
  4.  90° Header
  5.  Some dupont cable
  6.  Some M3 heat insert
  7.  Some M3 screws

 

Build:

  1.  Print your 3D files and insert M3 heat inserts
  2.  Solder 90° Headers
  3.  Solder Waveshare adapter
  4.  Connect the RFID-RC522 according to the diagram
  5.  Burn raspbian (or other favorite OS) to the microSD card
  6.  Set up SSH and configure the system (Follow the instructions of the Waveshare adapter)
  7.  Using PuTTY(windows) or Terminal (MacOS/linux) you can now control this system.
  8.  Install the necessary drivers
  9.  (optional). Create shortcuts - I do it myself by entering one command to write data to the RFID tag and the second command to start reading data from the RFID tag.
