This is an actively-cooled enclosure for housing an All Sky camera running - Thomas Jacquin's software.

It can be equipped with a high quality camera module, a Raspberry Pi Zero, and a 30mm 5v fan.

To enable remote focusing, consider installing the following remote software.

Getting Started

You will need the following non-included parts:

  • (1) - Raspberry Pi Zero WH
  • (1) - Micro SD card (Sandisk preferred)
  • (1) - USB to Micro-USB cable of appropriate length (do not exceed 25'). This will be used to deliver power to the Raspberry Pi Zero WH.
  • (1) - Raspberry Pi HQ Camera (with tripod mount removed)
  • (1) - StarDot 1.55mm lens
  • (1) - JMX 4 Inch Acrylic Indoor/Outdoor Clear Camera Dome
  • (1) - 30mm x 30mm5-volt Fan
  • (1) - Set of assorted M2.5 Cap Head Screws
  • (1) - Set of M3, M4, M5 Cap Head Screws

You may need the following additional tools:

  • Metric tap set
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Xacto Knife (for cleaning up small imperfections in prints)
  • WD-40 (for lubricating threads of fasteners)

Post-Printing

Assembly Instructions

  1. Install Raspbian OS onto the SD card and perform any initial configuration.
  2. Remove any support material from your printed pieces.
  3. Use your tap set to clean all the threads of your printed pieces
  4. Attach the camera ribbon cable to the Raspberry Pi Zero WH. Ensure the cable is properly secured.
  5. Attach the Raspberry Pi Zero WH to thebase using four M2.5 cap head screws.
  6. Insert the micro SD card into the Raspberry Pi Zero WH via the recess on the side of thebase.

7.) Insert the Micro USB plug through the cable routing recess on the side of thebase and plug it into the Raspberry Pi Zero WH. 7. Attach the fan to thecarrier board using four M3 cap head screws and nuts. 8. Carefully remove the tripod mount from the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera 9. Attach the remaining end of the camera ribbon cable to the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera (leave the protective cap in place). Ensure the cable is properly secured. 10. Attach the camera to thecarrier board using four M2.5 cap head screws and nuts. 11. Plug the fan into the Raspberry Pi's GPIO header. The red wire should be attached to pin 4 and the black wire should be attached to pin 6. 12. Carefully set thecarrier board onto thebase. The alignment pins ensure the two parts are correctly oriented. 13. OPTIONAL: To reduce the chance of reflection, cut a circle of black wool felt with a an outer diameter of 92mm and an inner diameter of 37mm. For best results use a cutting machine -- such as a Silhouette Cameo -- to cut the felt. Set the felt on top of thecarrier board 14. Set the camera dome on top of thecarrier board. Ensure the four recesses on the outer edge of the dome are aligned with the four holes in the top of thecarrier board. 15. Set thedome retaining ring on top of the rest of the camera assembly. Ensure the micro USB cable routes along the outer edge of thebase and exits through the small pass through on thedome retaining ring. 16. Secure thedome retaining ring to thebase using two M4 cap head screws

NOTE: You may need to remove the dome retaining ring and dome when you place the camera in its final location to adjust the lens focus.
