I saw Martin44's LED Bar which mounts into those mysterious hexagonal holes on top of the Z axis, but it's too big to fit on the MK3S buildplate as-is. I split it into three pieces - it fits on the Mini now - and added pin alignment holes in Blender.
Uses a small piece of filament as the alignment pins. You'll need to superglue the pieces all together.
I applied a USB LED strip that was ~$1.30 so anything you have should work.
Does not interfere with the extruder or reduce available print area.

Also, yes, I printed an upgrade for my MK3S on my Mini.

Print instructions

Draft settings are fine. I used 0.3mm layer height and 5% gyroid infill (started from the 0.25mm DRAFT preset for the Mini)
You'll need two small pieces of 1.75mm filament to use as pins, cut an angle on the ends and the filament will slide into place snugly.
Super glue the pieces together and let it cure properly.

I used a heatgun after assembly to open the completed U shape a little bit - avoiding the pin areas when bending - since I printed in PLA and didn't want the tension of snapping the strip into the hexagonal holes to split the part or the superglued surfaces.
