Fully 3D printed spring-fitting front lens caps for every lens with filter sizes from 40.5 mm to 82 mm.  Find the filter size you need for your lens (it's likely written on the front of it), then download the “main” and “insert” for that size.  For example, if your lens has a 52 mm filter, download “Main 52.stl” and “Insert 52.stl”.

Print one “Main” and two “Insert”.  Both have built in supports for overhang.  See the pictures for how to best remove those.

To assemble:

  • Remove supports and make sure edges of “Insert”s are clean.
  • Place the “Insert” into a slot on the “Main”, don't shove it all the way in yet.
  • Use a blade to gently lift the retaining clips on “Main” while pushing “Insert” in the rest of the way
  • Repeat for the other “Insert” and you'll have a functional lens cap!

Notes:

  • Thread pitch is 0.75 mm for all of these.
  • These were designed to print best at 0.16 mm.
  • I have only tested 43 mm, 49 mm, and 67 mm.  They worked great for my lenses, almost as good as the original lens caps.
  • There is no built-in support for 70 mm and above on the “Main” component.  It was simply too wide, and the support had a bad angle for printing.  You'll have to put a support in place in your slicer for the four retaining clips.
