This Thing which I recently developed can be used as a timer for e.g. range commands.
Ít can be programmed to give commands like:
a) "For the next competition - Load"
b) "Start"
c) "STOP"
LEDs indicate: Power on, Stop (RED), Get ready (YELLOW), Shoot (GREEN).
A built-in amplifier PAM 8404 and loudspeaker give you clear commands. The commands have been created by using Text-To-Speech applications, then edited a bit with an audio editor. I made three commands: see above a, b, c.
They are all in mp3-format, and are saved on a micro-SD-card, for the DFPlayer-mini.
An Arduino Nano and additional LEDs, wires, resistors, battery, connectors, push-buttons and switches complete the investment. I guess this is in a $15 range, including PLA-filament.

Notes:
You need to decide about raft or support. Depends on the file(s). I built the main housing with loudspeaker-opening on build plate. My Prusa did good with printing MAINLY without supports. I just used MANUALLY created supports only in the loudspeaker opening.
The loudspeaker plate needs to be re-designed depending on your speaker. I printed the loudspeaker with 99% size, for a better fit in the housing. No rework!
Sound is quite acceptable for a Ø28mm speaker. Sound just comes fine, after you build it into the housing. Before you barely can hear the speaker. Bear this in mind. The PAM 8403 module does a decent job, I work with less than 50% volume. Am excited how my new speaker behaves, once it arrives (due to actual Corona lead times...,).
Internally the monting rack needs some attention, as parts are mostly mounted differently.
I use (by now) an internal battery pack of 4 AA (rechargeable) batteries.
You may need to sort out the files and likely need to separate connected surfaces for your fine-tuning.
One housing version carries all necessary descriptions already in the print. Just in case you like it.
