Inspired by the Tessellating Tiles contest on Printables, I decided to try my hand at creating a tessellating tile that had a recognizable shape. The Horse & Rider is the result.
Six horses interlock to make a larger horse tile, which can then be joined to other six-horse tiles with joiner tiles. These two tiles make an infinitely tiling system. Print as few or as many as you like and assemble as a puzzle.
The larger, multi-color puzzle print shown consists of 18 horse tiles and three joiner tiles.
An optional hollow joiner tile is also available for a different look.
Future revisions may include additional design features (eyes, etc) and changes to make the pieces easier to manipulate for would-be puzzle solvers.
Printing
This design was tested with PLA, and the included gcode files are the .20mm SPEED profile for Generic PLA in PrusaSlicer. The only thing to watch out for is bed adhesion, since these are relatively flat parts.
I imagine this design will scale up and down well (within limits), but I haven't tested that yet.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
