Being a high quality toy, our Fendt took a lot of playing and some beating from two brothers when one day dad accidentally stepped in the game (literally) and the front axle finally broke.
After sheding some tears (all of us) we remembered having our new friend “printi” who might be able to help us out. After an examination we found out that the wheels, fenders and wheel carriers are one assembly which both survived and only a pin from the steering axle and a piece of the front axle broke off - BEST CASE SCENARIO! These parts are reprintable!
After modelling the first version in CAD it of course had some flaws that needed to be adressed right away but overall fit was there - somehow.
Version 2 was better but just so far to discover the next problem when trying to assemble the parts → trash!
Version 3 was way more sophisticated, looking a lot more organic (wasteful use of the radius tool in CAD) or steel forged but while one side did a very satisfying snap fit, the other refused to clip into place: Three of four acceptance bores widened with the years of playing while one stayed relatively as it was and of course I measured the small one …
Version 4 got another set of holes (you know, why not?) and was finally the final final.
Printing it as shown works well but you may also try other orientations. I used PLA+ an the parts came out much stronger than expected! Currently gave them to my ‘testing crew’ and they take their job pretty serious.
I know you're here to print but you can order the whole front axle including the wheels for around 8€ at Bruder directly in case the wheel carriers received some damage. You can then throw the middle part in the trash and print your own axle ;)
