Description

PDF

Roll it to do close-range chip damage, throw it for a long range homing blast: the torpedo! About the size of a marshmallow, this is either a large keychain or a nice desk ornament. Everything should snap together with press-fit tolerances, but a little glue never hurts (just don't glue the propeller if you want it to spin!)

Files

  • everything is grouped by color
  • splat torp.stl isn't intended to be printed; it's so there's a nice 3D render to spin in the preview pane :)

Print Recommendations

Everything except container.stl can be printed without supports. Container only needs supports on the build plate, and only for the two nubs on the head--I set supports to 20° in PrusaSlicer. I recommend you print everything with a 2-3mm brim, but you can likely get away without it if you print slowly.

This was intended to be printed in PLA. You might be able to bend the nozzle's cap arm with another plastic type, but I've not tested it.

Assembly

The propeller snaps onto the clippy axle on the end of the container. In order to bend the nozzle's thin section, you need to apply a little heat. Steam will make it pliable very quickly, or, if you'd like a little more control, you can dip something round that will retain heat into just boiled water and roll the strip around it--I used the handle of my X-acto knife. Once bent, the bobble fits over the narrow end of the other nozzle piece, and its wide end fits into the slot on the disk. The wide end is then inserted into the lid, which can then be pushed into the front of the container.

Changes

v1.1: adjusted propeller fit; I was shaving a little bit off of the clippy protrusions on the axle, so I did the same to the file! Also increased the gap between propeller base and container.
