This is a Remix, merge and refactor of SquirrelBrain's and Orson80's awesome case designs for the RatRig V-Minion.
I needed more space for my SKR3-EZ, which the Orson80s design fit, but I also like SquirrelBrain's RPI modular design, so I merged them.
Main Differences:
- Added dual fans on the lid with shrouds to protect from falling debris.
- Added openings for Y-motor.
- Changed lid to open from the top and separate from the sides for easy access when wiring.
- Thicken universally.
- Thicken lid using honeycomb to cut down on material used.
- Footprint offset now supports easy extension for larger boards like the Octopus and Manta.
- .step file includes a variable to set the board hole size. Included files are for 3mm heat inserts.
- Added tie-wrap mount points.
- Re-orientated the boards.
Currently supports:
- SKR2
- SKR3/3-EZ
- SKR E3 MINI V3
- SKR PICO
Parts Needed:
9 - M3x4 Heat Inserts
1 - M6x6 (rear frame mount)
1 - M6x4 (side frame mount)
2 - M6 t-slot nuts
9 - M3x8 Socket Head Cap Bolts.
I included the RPI4 mount from SquirrelBrain's project. All of his other RPI mounts will work as well.
Installation Tips:
- Lid fans flow direction is towards the board. This is to keep cooler air from hitting the bottom of the bed.
- Install the heat inserts for the board from the bottom of the enclosure.
- For the SKR2/3, install the top left bolt first.
- Context: For all of these minion cases, space is tight.
- Trying to keep the build volume < 180mm for those who this might be their only printer (for now).
- The USB connections to the RPI are also tight against the side of the case, but will fit.
- I suggest ordering a set of these to be able to remove the RPI easily without having to remove the lid: https://a.co/d/eVGiaVJ
- On v3, I will add 10mm to that side which should be enough clearance and will keep it under 180mm.
Contact:
- Please leave any feedback, good or bad.
- .step file is included but I am willing to make updates if they're needed for improvements.
Revison Updates:
12/23/22 :
12/24/22 :
- Added chase for z motor harness.
- Corrected 6mm rear frame mount. I added a support so the case would not deform as it was tightened. This was causing the lid to be hard to align.
- Corrected (2) 6mm frame mount clearances.
- Corrected board orientation to keep stepper drivers heatsinks away from the RPI.
Happy Printing!
