This is a small gift box perfect for any occasion, just load it with a gift and a stink bomb and it's ready to go. Press one button and the front door opens granting you access to its contents. Press the other and the stink bomb is shattered, covering the gift with foul smelling liquid and obviously making the room stink. The twist is that your victim has no clue which button opens the box.

Necessary Hardware

Stink bombs- Should work with any that look like these but just in case the fat end can't be any bigger than 11mm and the skinny end can't be bigger than 6.5mm

2x 3/8"x3/4" springs- All my springs were sourced from the harbor freight kit that is linked

2x 23/64"x1-3/8" spring

1x 13/64"x13/16" spring

1x ¼"-20x1" Screw- All screws were sourced from the linked harbor freight kit

2x #6-32x1/2" Screws

Assembly Instructions

(check the tips before assembly)

  1. Break in the door hinge by moving it back and forth many times, it will start stiff but loosens up within a couple of min.
  2. Place the Stink Hoop into the Stink Holder.
  3. Place the door latch onto the post on the left wall and then screw the latch retainer over the latch and into the post with a #6-32x1/2" screw.
  4. Screw the button disk into the open button with another #6-32x1/2" screw, if the hole does not fit just glue the disk in place.
  5. Glue the projectile holder into the square on the right wall, make sure the nub is facing upwards. The upwards orientation has the box joints of the right wall facing to the rear.
  6. Place both 3/8"x3/4" springs on their posts on the roof. They will have a part you need to bend the springs around.
  7. Place one end of a 23/64"x1-3/8" spring on the nub coming out of the projectile holder and the other end on the nub of the stink button. While doing this make sure to slide the press button into the projectile holder.
  8. Place the open button onto the latch by putting the slot onto the back of the latch. It will not stay in place on its own but this must come before the next step.
  9. Add the floor and back wall to the right and left wall by snapping together the box joints. Then place the roof on top while guiding the bottom through.
  10. Attach one end of a 13/64"x13/16" spring to the hook on the latch and attach the other end to the hook on the roof above it. (refer to previous pic of latch assembly)
  11. Glue the door hook into the door.
  12. Connect the door to the front of the shell you have already made.
  13. Make sure to test fit everything then glue all the joints and do any cosmetic work you want.
  14. When ready to fire, load the spring and screw into the projectile holder by pressing down the stink button, sticking a 23/64"x1-3/8" spring into the projectile holder, then putting a ¼"-20x1" Screw into the spring and compressing until it clears the stink button gate. Then release the stink button and the projectile is ready to fire.
  15. After loading the projectile you can then put a stink bomb into the stink holder as shown and slide it into its holding spot on the left wall.
  16. Press the door closed, or press the open button then close.
  17. Now your gift box is ready to go, just load it with your gift or due to the size, I would also recommend a note to the location of the gift to send them on a little treasure hunt for added suffering.

Tips

  • Print the stink button laying down so it is strong. If you print it standing up it will break super easily.
  • If either of your buttons doesn't slide smoothly or they just sound like they were 3d printed, try sanding the outsides with 220 grit to reduce the friction on them.
  • With the current model, it is possible that the top of the door sticks out a hair and you can either cut about 1mm off the ends of the door hook before installation or you can extend the holes made for the door hook by drilling all the way through. If you do this you will want to sand, fill, and paint the outside of the door so that it is not obvious which side the door hook is on. CA glue, bondo, or epoxy works fine for this.
  • The spring on the right will need some trimming with wire cutters so that it does not unevenly press open the door. Because it is so far from the door hook it applies more torque and opens it too far on that side. Just slowly trim at it until the door closes evenly across the whole front.
  • For your convenience, make sure you install the stink bomb holder with the opening facing toward the back wall so that it can't slip out.
  • Put the gift in a ziplock bag so it doesn't get soaked, or don't. I know I won't be doing that.
  • Make sure the box is held level when it is used so that the screw is launched properly and won't miss the stink bomb. If possible, tell the victim to set it on the table when they choose their desired button.
  • Do not force the stink bombs in any way. If they do not fit, stop and alter their holder. They are very fragile and will break with little force.
