About this project

This is a modular electric glowstick, or almost a Lightsaber. This is a work in progress, so if you have any ideas for improvements, let me know.

What you will need

Apart from a printer, you will need a LED diode (3mm or 5mm) and a 2032 coin cell battery.

Printing instructions

No parts require supports. Infill and perimeters at your discretion, the more material the more sturdier the parts are and can take more ruff handling. Keep in mind that the blade (light diffuser) parts can be printed as vase mode ( spiralize outer contour) or with only walls but for both no bottom layers.

Assembling the “core”

You will need - battery_holder, core_shell, light_holder(one of variants) and lite_fixator.

  1. Take light_holder and put thru the LED diode.
  2. Bend diode wires to represent the image.
  3. Take the battery holder and insert the battery in the slot.
  4. Take core_shell and insert the assembled battery_holder. The slot on top of battery_holder should be facing inside. Push it in till the end
  5. Take assembled light_holder and put it in from the opposite as the battery_holder. If the light does not light up - make sore the wires did not get bent ( if so, try adjusting their shape) rotate light_holder 180 so that the light touches the correct poles of the battery.  When the light_holder is in place, wiggle it back and forth so it drops in to the small slot and fixes itself rotationally.
  6. Screw in light_fixator so that light_holder does not move anymore.
  7. Toggle switch on and off to make sure it's working reliably. If the switch is sticking or hard to toggle, make sure that the surfaces are smooth and no artifacts are there. If the problem persists, light sanding of core_shell from the insight should help. If the light is on constantly, you need to trim the wires and check if it matches your expectations. If the light does not come up all the time, re-bend the LED wires and try again.

After success, you can assemble the glowstick as you like, the are multiple extensions, and a special extension that enables you to attach two cores together.

Good luck and happy printing.
