Because of our animals, we do not decorate much inside, but have been decorating our outside Red Maple for a long time. As it grew larger, it became much more difficult to hang the large ornaments. I used to use just a loop of a long, large wire tie, but it became very difficult to hang it on branches on the tree.
I designed this ornament hook to make it much easier and quicker. The ornament is attached via wire tie, fishing line, or string to the hook, and using a pole with a special end, is lifted on to the tree.
When the pole/attachment is lifting the tree, the opening of the hook should be mostly facing down, allowing it to drop on a branch easily. After pulling back the pole, the weight of the ornament rotates the hook a bit, and keeps it on the branch quite well. Of course, high winds will still knock some off from time to time, but I think i've only had three knocked off at most over a season.
This video just shows how quickly it can be to hang an ornament.
This has reduced the time needed to decorate my tree by two hours!
The two halves of the hanger have been designed to be a very tight fit. I use pliers to push them together, so your mileage may vary and may require some trimming depending on your printer.
The Ornament Hook Tool Adapter goes in the Ornament Hook Base from from the threaded side, through the opening, lining up the ‘tabs’ with the ‘slots’. Then screw on to an extension pole, similar to this or this one.
