Top Mounted Extruder Drive Gimbal System

FYI, I absolutely love this setup. I am using it now and it has been flawless and my prints look so nice. Guess I got lucky with this version. Thanks for trying it, I think you will love it too.

It has been working great however it was just PLA on PLA so even with lube it was sticky and jerky. I had some extra ¼ inch balls so I made a Gimbal that uses the center spindle as part of the bearing race itself. It mounts on the top rail and has a “slide on” mount that lays it back 30 degrees. The center spindle holds the Extruder Motor, Extruder Drive gears, and a cooling Fan mount on the rear with standoff's. The external housing and the spindle are grooved to accept the bearings. The top and bottom sandwich the bearings and Spindle to create a smooth race.

 To assemble just place the New_Extruder_Drive_Bottom_V2 on a flat surface and fill the bottom groove with bearings. Place the New_Extruder_Drive_Spindle_V2 on top aligning the grooves. Carefully hold the spindle down securing the bearings and slide a wire tie around the unit and this will secure the spindle to the bottom and the bearings will stay in place. Cut 2 paper strips and tape them on the outside tabs, covering the halfmoon slot. This will keep all the bearings from rolling out for the next step. Place the New_Extruder_Drive_Top_V2 top down on a flat surface and fill the groove with bearings. Invert the Bottom assembly and carefully place place on top of the bearing filled top. While apply force to hold the halves together, use 3mm hardware to slightly tighten the assembly. Now that the bearing wont fall out, remove the paper strips and cut the wire tie. Now tighten the 3mm hardware tight and the race is completed and a few drops of lube seal the deal. Now install the Extruder Motor and Drive mechanism. Place screw threw the 4x Extruder_Fan_Shime_01's and mount an optional cooling fan. I on my other install I had to reverse motor direction. This can be done threw most firmware. Now start printing.
