Toothbrush Holder Tooth

A toothbrush holder shaped like a tooth remixed to keep the toothbrushes upright. It has a modified cavity that has a flat bottom instead of a paraboloid bottom and has 4 walled off compartments. There are two versions available to download: one with a hole at the bottom and one without the hole.

2022-12-05 update: I added a 3rd version where the cavity is the same shape as the tooth and goes all the way down to the bottom of the model. I made this version because I had noticed in the comments of the remix source that some people complained that the cavity wasn't deep enough and their toothbrushes fell out. My original remix should solve that problem too and I prefer it, but some people might not like the walled compartments so this is an alternate solution to the problem.

2023-01-26 update: I added two 3-walled versions: one with a drainage hole and one without the hole. These versions could be used to hold a tube of toothpaste along with a couple toothbrushes, but you might want the 2mm shell version instead if you want the tooth to hold some toothpaste.

With the updates, there are now 5 versions available:

• flat bottomed cylindrical cavity, 4 walls, with drainage hole
• flat bottomed cylindrical cavity, 4 walls, no hole
• flat bottomed cylindrical cavity, 3 walls, with drainage hole
• flat bottomed cylindrical cavity, 3 walls, no hole
• 2 mm shell with deeper tooth-shaped cavity

All models should be printed with supports on the build plate only.

Supports On Bottom Only
All version of the tooth should be printed with supports for the bottom center of the tooth.

The 2 mm shell version can be printed without supports for the inner top part as long as the layer height is small enough. I printed mine with 0.12 mm layer height and it turned out just fine without any supports for the top part.

Use Lightning Infill!
I printed the tooth using Cura's lightning infill which used about half as much filament as any normal infill pattern. It was the first time I tried the lightning infill, and I highly recommend it for models like this that don't require a lot of structural strength. Two 0.4 mm walls were enough to make the print strong enough as long as you're not trying to break it. Add a third wall if you want it stronger.

How I did it.

1. Imported the STL into Blender and used it to fill both ends of the hole at the bottom so it no longer existed.
2. Used OpenSCAD to make a new cavity shape to remove from the model.
3. Used OpenSCAD to create the walls.
4. Imported the two OpenSCAD models into Blender.
5. Used Blender to Perform a Boolean difference of the model and the new cavity shape.
6. Used Blender to perform a Boolean union of the model and the walls.
7. Exported the model from Blender to an STL.

Why The Remix?
There are several tooth-shaped models similar to the original, but I thought the remix source was the best of the bunch because it was very well modelled with smooth high resolution surfaces and near-perfect symmetry. However, after printing it and using it in my crowded medicine cabinet, I found that the toothbrush handles tended to slide to the center because the cavity was egg shaped and they would then be angled such that the brushes were touching the cabinet door, walls, or adjacent items in my medicine cabinet. So I modified the cavity so that it had a flat bottom, but that actually made the problem worse because the brush end tended to swing to the opposite side of the handle end at the bottom and was at an even bigger angle. So I added some retaining walls to keep them from sliding around. In this refined model the toothbrushes now stand upright.
