I saw an instructable about this, but when I tried it on my Mk3 I got less than ideal results in the finished article. The Mini though...

Print instructions

This is hexagonal filament so it is 1.82mm wide, and 1.6 tall. This means that at 0.2mm layer heights, you get 8 layers so putting a colour change at 1mm will give you 4 layers of one colour and 4 of another. You will also need a higher extrusion multiplier than usual (about 12-15%). My testing seems to suggest that while you do get more filament with a 0.1mm layer height, it's negligible compared to the pain of taking twice as long waiting for the colour change.

Octagonal filament would also have worked like this, but there is no way to cut this in half with 1.8mm filament unless you were using 0.1mm layer height. Going up to 2mm filament would cause some bowdens to struggle more. So hexagonal it is.

There are 2 sets of files here, one set for a 200x200mm bed size and one for an 180x180mm.

There is a tester that just demonstrates the process. None of the filament will be useable, but it only takes 8 minutes or so to print.

There is a 1m print, this will allow you to have a couple of good goes calibrating your e-steps and extrusion multiplier.

There is a 10m print, kind of like what you would get as a tester fro a filament from any regular supplier.

There is also the maximum size for the bed assuming you don't go much below a 50mm inner diameter. Any smaller and you'd struggle to get this through an extruder, especially a Bowden one.

For best results for a finished article, use complementary and bright colours and print the model in vase mode.

Hopefully, animated gifs are supported here, and that's what the cube is in the pictures... Maybe one day we can support video attachments. IF none of that work, here are YouTube links
