Save money they said. Buy your filament in 2kg or 4kg rolls they said… Well duck! These larger, either double wide or wide and tall rolls just do not fit on the included Prusa Holder. So I have jerry-rigged a solution with chains, pullies and coat hangers that I have been using for the last six months… wait… chains and pulleys.. uhh, that was… something else. ;)
Semantics aside, its taken me forever to get off my butt and design these spool holders capable of holding larger and wider spools, absolutely essential if you buy your filament in 2kg or larger rolls like I do.
To ensure compatibility with the Prusa, I hacked off the latching mechanism of Prusa's original model, and then re-modeled a taller holder. I mirrored it to allow for dual wide rolls/ tall rolls to fit. The spool cover is intended to be slightly loose if printed spiral vase at 0.6mm line width. If using, you will need to clip both L and R brackets on simultaneously.
All pieces are printable in a single piece on a standard Prusa i3.
Another version is available as a L or R side only with a lip.
Now you can buy those chonky and less expensive on a <Your Currency> / <Your Weight Unit> basis. Now you have more spare cash to buy more Printers! Then you will need to print again for all the new filament you will need for your new printer, and oh the cycle continues and pretty soon you will have a dozen printers in your home!
