This is a simple click on cover to protect the ports and more importantly power button fro little children's fingers. I suppose it could even be used as a dust cover for the USB ports. It isn't 100% kid proof as the low profile allows a kid to bend it up or unclip it, but like many "security" items, it acts as a deterrent so hopefully they'll ignore it.
Hopefully this will help you drastically reduce your internet outages as it has in my house.
