The sorting tower is made for filament PM spools and Prusament Spools.
The draws are made for spiral vase mode, in order to reduce used filament.
the tower have elastic self retract, because its cool...
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
the vase mode drawers also fit into my original PRUSA spool - Sorting Tower, you can find that at my page.
The Base, Connectors and Top are all printed "Normal", nozzle sizes does not matter.
The spring should be printed with enough perimeters to be solid in the thin spring part.
the drawers is recommended to be printed in one of two ways.
put a 0.6mm nozzle in your hotend and print the drawers using the spiral vase mode setting.
use any size nozzle, orient the model in the slicer so that the front i pointing towards the front of the printer, then use the following settings.
1: get an empty Prusament spool or a filament PM spool.
2: take the spool apart, as it is shown in one of the pictures.
3: print the "Base", "Top"(if Prusament spool is used, print "Top_Prusament", and if filament PM is used print "Top_FilamentPM") and one of the two connectors, either high or medium. this can be printed in any material.
4: print 4 drawers, in the same size as the connector you just printed, either medium or high. the drawers should be printed in spiral vase mode, but can also be printed with no infill, no solid top layers and 1 perimeter.
5: print the "Spring", this is best to make in PETG! if it is made in PLA it will still work, but it will be less flexible. this should be printed so that the spring arms are solid.
6: assemble everything as follow. (in one of the pictures there is an exploded view)
6.1: place the Base on a table.
6.2: place one spool side on top of the base, with the outside of the spool pointing down.
6.3: put the 4 drawers on top of the spool side.
6.4: take the spring with the flat side pointing up, and put the ends into the slits in the drawers.
6.5: take the connector, with the outside thread pointing down. put it through the spring and screw it into the base. this should be locking the spool side and the spring in place.
6.6: place the other spool side on top of the connector oriented the same way as the first spool side.
6.7: take the top and screw it through the spool side. this should hold the last spool side in place, and you have now assembled your very own recycled sorting tower.
if you have more than one spool, fear not!!
if you want to add more layers, then stop after 6.6 and go back to 6.3
Good Luck and Happy Printing!!!
