Updates:
20/05/2020 - RC2: Added RC2 with 1mm Wall thickness for those using slicers gap-filling capabilities or nozzles that produce an extrusion width of >0.5mm
After printing over 300 and standing on the basis of the already great Original Prusa Design I redrew the part to optimise printing a little more.
Firstly I reduced the wall thickness from 1mm down to 0.82mm as I found with my extruder nozzle of 0.35mm (extrusion width 0.42mm) I was seeing gaps between the two walls resulting in weakness, I've heard of other makers experiencing this issue too
Secondly, to reduce retractions I removed the holes and replaced with a 'swoop', keeping the wall at a constant 0.82mm throughout this ensures that the print head completes the wall layer in a single pass with no returning to fill tiny microvoids which with PETG can lead to stringing and other artefacts
Finally, I removed the front-outward facing pips as I felt that added nothing to the design structurally, the newly printed part feels more robust perhaps you will have some success with it too!
it also prints slightly faster I guess due to the optimized path and subtle geometry changes, only a small change but I'm printing 60 at a time and it adds up:
Original Part: Original Design
Build time: 0 hours 15 minutes
Filament length: 671.8 mm
Plastic weight: 5.36 g (0.01 lb)
Material cost: 0.09
Optimized Part:
Build time: 0 hours 14 minutes
Filament length: 616.2 mm
Plastic weight: 4.91 g (0.01 lb)
Material cost: 0.08
I have also included the STEP File should someone wish to make further modifications and augmentations.. all the best & good luck folks!
Pictured tested working with 0.5mm PP Sheild Plastic
RC1: 0.82mm Walls - for printers with extrusion widths <0.42mm
RC2: 1.00mm Walls - for printers with extrusion widths >0.42mm (or using gap-filling settings)
Printed 0.3mm Layer Height
3 Walls
30% Infill
Supports are not necessary.
Ideally, print it from PETG.
