Always the right length!

Compared to a common bending tool this adjustable one can be set to the wanted length. It can form long wires for breadboard use as well. Even diagonal connections with unique lengths are no problem.

A paper about the tool was published in the special issue 7/22 „Elektro Technik“ of the German MAKE Magazine. 

UPDATE 18.01.2023: I added the files for a version with 2mm wires as pins. For this version is also a blender file available. Thanks @Carsten (https://www.printables.com/de/social/15695-carsten) for that cool modified version!

 

Instructions & Material

you will need (yes, it’s metric!):

  • 3x printed parts (knob, slider, handpiece)
  • 2x M2 thread insert 
  • 2x M2 x 20 bolt 
  • 2x M2 nut
  • 1x M5 x 12 bolt
  • 1x M5 nut
  1. print the parts
  2. melt in the tread inserts by using a soldering iron
  3. sharpen the end of the M2 bolts
  4. cut off M2 bolt heads
  5. apply a counter but to each M2 bolt
  6. insert bolts into threads and fix them by tightening the counter nuts
  7. insert M5 nut into sliding part
  8. put slider part onto hand part
  9. put M5 bolt into turning knob part
  10. Screw in turning screw into sliding part.
