This is a Wheels mod for the Fractal Design 7 XL and Meshify 2 XL case, that i use as my huge DIY NAS/Server. (Also works with the non-XL Fractal Define 7 and perhaps more)

The original Idea and files come from Wendell at Level1Techs

I changed the part to fit a 8mm steel rod to prevent tilting of the wheels inwards and added a cover cap. There is a video demonstrating the changes to the Original.

What you will need:

  • The 3D-printed parts (90-120g PLA in total) (You need 2xSideA and 2x SideB)
  • A set of standard office chair wheels with a 11mm rod. Like this
  • 8mm steel threaded rod (1m cut to 4x 23cm in length or 22cm for alt. version, define 7 different length)
  • metal saw to cut the rod
  • 8x M8 Nuts
  • Optional 4x M4x12mm screw with 4x M4 washers and 4x M4 Nuts

Update 2025-11-03

  • Info: Also works on the non-XL Define 7 case. Thanks Motiur Rahman for testing and confirming. The case is narrower than XL counterparts. Please adjust the rod length acordingly. (updated title+text)

Update 2023-11-05:

I provided an alternative version with the following changes:

  • Rod hole is now 8,15mm instead of 8,10mm
  • The Rod holes are covered on the end and don't go through all the way. It's designed for exactly 22cm long rods. In theory, this means you don't need to use the M8 nuts to secure it since it can't wiggle anyway in there and is only used to stiffen the whole thing.
  • The 2 small pins on the top that were hollow to fit through the zip-ties are now solid. You can't use zip-ties, but they don't break off that easily. (Make sure your only screw in the middle is holding)

If you want to use this version is up to you. It is not strictly better or worse in any way. Just decide what you want. I also provided step files if you want to make your own changes.

My settings used:

  • printed on a Prusa i3 MK3s
  • 0,4mm Nozzle 0,20mm layer height
  • 30% Infill

Feel free to print with other settings if you think they are better.

You can use the same screws from the original feet with zip ties. If the screw hole has no threading, i recommend using an M4x12 screw and a washer+nut to fix the adapter to the case more securly. you will need to thread the hole from ~3,4 to M4. I did not have/use any zip ties.
