I wanted an easy way to open the hatch/trunk from inside the truck. Easy install.

For camping in particular, it would be really handy to be able to open the back of the Xterra from inside, right? This is V1, and in my limited testing it's worked great. It may lose it's place but it's easy to wriggle around back into place.

Installation is pretty easy - you'll need a 7/16" or 12mm drill bit, a 10mm deep and 7mm (IIRC) sockets.

  • Remove the rear plastic panel (small bolts behind the first aid kit, pop the plastic trim off the ends of the handle and remove the 10mm bolts
  • Firmly pull the panel out, working around to find all clips
  • Peel back the felt dust/sound guard from the inside by the handle
  • You'll see the handle hinges - the side nearest the cable pull is the one you want - drill a hole in the felt roughly where the little crevice in the handle is
  • Until I can get precise measurements, put a paint pen in the felt and push the plastic cover up to it to get an idea of where to drill (you'll see I had to drill twice, hehe) the plastic cover
  • Push the blade from the inside of the hatch through the felt, and smoosh it back into place
  • Line up the plastic cover and push the blade shaft through.
  • Make sure that plastic cover has all its metal clips in place
  • “Reassembly is the opposite of disassembly”
  • Thread the knob onto the end!

Printed on a Prusa i3 MK3s in Hatchbox PETG - you may have to resize the lock a smidge to get a nice fit on the button.
