This is a barn door tracker that I designed. I designed it after watching the below video. In the video he builds one for $30 and I kept that in mind when building mine. Mine comes out just over $30, with 95% of the cost split between the ball head mount and the aluminum rod.
I have included a build guide for this in the files below but be warned some of it is just me rambling about design considerations. In the build guide I build the version with heat-set inserts, however, I do not recommend that version as they are a pain and don't add that much. I recommend building the “thread.”
I have included .stp files for both versions (see the build guide).
Parts are designed to be easy to print with no supports, but I can't figure out how to re-orient .stl files so please use your best judgement when setting these parts up to print.
NOTE: THIS IS A VERSION 1. I PLAN TO MAKE UPDATES TO THE MODEL TO IMPROVE ITS EASY OF USE AND FUNCTIONAL. I do not have a time line for this but I will add links when they are ready. Also, there a few slight changes that I made before uploading, so the parts in the images are not exactly the same as what I have uploaded for you.
What the heck is a barn door tracker?
