This is a soldering fume extractor fan I designed heavily inspired by work by the user koensmelt who was in turn inspired by sneakypoo over on Thingiverse. The biggest difference with mine is the size. This is intended to mount a 12v 80mm fan instead of the larger fan in the original designs.

Apart from this I remodeled all the rest to fit a smaller fan adding my own personal touches like:

  1. Knob: mostly because I couldn't design one as nicely as the original designs.
  2. Hood: I simplified the hood shape.
  3. Stand: it's similar in profile although smaller. I also beveled the interfaces to give more clamping surface area.
  4. Power: I have a little add on if you want to add a switch and plug. This part is optional.

Part Used:

  1. Mechtronix 12v Axial Fan (F8025X12B-FHR-EM).
  2. Switch (uxcell Latching Metal Push Button Switch 12mm Mounting Dia 1NO 6V Red LED Light High Flat).
  3. Barrel Jack (5.5 x 2.1 MM 5A DC Power Jack Socket)
  4. Power Supply (Chanzon 12V 0.5A 6W AC DC Switching Power Supply Adapter).
  5. M3 x 40mm screws and matching nuts.
  6. Activated carbon sheet (I bought a sheet of this stuff from Amazon a while back). The dimensions for this is 80mm x 80mm and there's a lip inside that will retain the material without need of fasteners.

Future idea: replace the plug assembly with a battery pack to eliminate cord hassles.

Print instructions

I was able to print all the parts of this without supports.*

  • Exception: the part for accommodating the plug and switch. I did the default lattice supports on it and it was fine. This part is optional if you just want to run the plug straight to the fan wire.
