This iPad stand uses control cams and pins to fold open and deploy hooks for the iPad to stand on.

Demonstration: https://youtu.be/kKk_SdPNJVE

Please ignore the two nails sticking out the side. I have no m2 screws available at the moment so I used these two very long nails to replace them for this prototype. The correct screws are flat with the outside.

this model needs to be assembled using m2 bolts and 2mm pins. This will take approx. 15-20 minutes

The control cams used are calculated such that the angle between them is constant. This means that the movement of all parts is consistent and the force required to rotate them does not change no matter how far they are already rotated. This is done using a vectorfield F which returns the slope that is required for each Point (x,y) and solving the ODE y'(t)=F(y(t)).

Print instructions

Do not reorient the parts. It is very important that all curves are printed in the xy-plane to guarantee a smooth outline.

If you are looking for a perfect fit, and are willing to sand each part use the "normal" model, otherwise use those marked as "high tolerance". If available use m2 threaded inserts as shown. If not print the "no-threded-inserts" marked stls.

Print each part once and two hooks.

Because there are moving parts, you (unfortunately) need:
2x m2x14 screws (if unavailable use screws with approx 2mm dia)
6x 2mmx8mm (dia x len) metal pins (if unavailable use nails with approx 2mm dia and cut them to length using pliars)

Ideally you should also use 2mmx5mm(inner dia x outer dia) ball bearings. (If unavailable use the bearing-adaper.stl and use a drillbit and pliers to widen the hole to 2.5mm)

ASSEMBLY:
assemble all parts as shown in the pictures. Use a 2mm drill bit and pliers to widen the holes used for the 2mm pins. Secure everything in place using super(ca)-glue.
Because print orientation is very important the underside has to be printed as three separate pieces. To make assembly as easy as possible holes for locator pins are provided. Glue these three parts together as shown in the pictures.
