Interesting, I was also thinking about powering my DIY wheel via the base using pogo pins. But how do you transfer data? Via Bluetooth?

@Jonno12345_273707 Thanks, also how do you converting the 12V to 5V (or 3V?)?

@Steelko_267217 Just a buck converter, pretty sure it was just a LM2596S. Convered down to 3.3v as 5v would require further conversion on the ESP32 an added more inefficiency. I also had to limit the CPU speed and disable all the WiFi modules on the ESP32, which was just a couple of extra lines in the sketch, again just to reduce power draw so the wireless coupling of my R9v1 could work. I don't know if newer wheel bases still pass power wirelessly or not as they have the new interconnect since the R5 wheel base, so may be able to provider more power than the older ones.
