Most laptops manufactured today use a brass grommet that is pressed into a plastic post to mount the screen hinges. Eventually this plastic will get brittle and break. Most of the time this involves replacing the palm rest. However, the palm rest is also the motherboard tray and many companies are using what is essentially plastic riveting to permanently attach the keyboard and/or touch pad to the palm rest as well. So you are replacing 1-3 parts and performing a motherboard swap.

We found this to be outrageous and originally would build up epoxy around whatever existing plastic was there in an attempt to avoid it, but that repair was messy and difficult to get right.

After working with 3D printers for a while I started designing replacement parts for broken laptops and found that a relatively few standard sizes could be used for this particular repair and then trimmed when needed.

We have also included a threaded model for resin printers, but it's only meant to be used when metal grommets are unavailable.
