Motivation

Before the rain season starts, I was urged to create this model for covering a broken (already missing) drain strainer cover, so water from the rain can go into the sewer pipes but not get full of leaves or other material that can clog the drain.

The Model

Now, I have a Prusa Mini+ which print surface is limited to 18x18cm and the drain hole has an outer size of 19.8cm , therefore I was urged to split the model into 5 pieces, one for the cover that is designed to be 17.5x17.5cm that sits well in the drain orifice, and another 4 L-shaped parts that serve as spacers for preventing the drain cover from moving.

I used PET-G for printing when:

  • Generic PET-G filament profile (I used eSUN Black PET-G Filament)
  • 60% infill for having strength so you can stand over the drain cover
  • 0.2mm layer height.
  • No supports needed.

You can print the 4 L-Shaped parts at once, they will fit in your Prusa Mini.

Note: It was the first time I printed PET-G with the Prusa Mini+ and the result was nice.
