Is your LCD burning out your retinas? No more! I have no idea why they didn't include an off button but we can fix that

I loved the idea of an LCD cover when I came across the excellent original design by foglie0p but the vertical orientation and the crazy wobbly feet made me think it would slip off easily.

So….I Dr. Frankensteined a hinge on it!!  A little hot glue put it on there semi-permanently for me.  I also added a little finger cutout on the bottom of the post (totally unnecessary but I was throwing the kitchen sink at it).

The changes I made to the original:

  • Slightly increased size of the LCD cover by about 4mm in all directions to cover the screen and sit on top of it instead of in the cutout
  • Added an unnecessary but still functional (useful?) thumb cutout on the bottom of the handle
  • Added a hinge to the (left on mine but you could easily put it on the right side) side of the LCD cover

I linked the design in Tinkercad in case anyone was interested in improving this.  If my CAD skills were better I would change these 2 things to start:

  1. Make the “right” side of the hinge that is on the LCD cover totally flush. I was worried about making it thinner and compromising something at the hinge but also I didn't want to make the LCD cover 3mm thicker (let's save filament here y'all!).
  2. Add in a channel on the “left” side of the hinge that follows the round piece that it rests on (the shape would be a “C”). This would have it sit flat and allow more surface area to attach adhesive.

If anyone uses it I hope that it helps you!
