This is a conversion kit to use the original Anycubic Mega X extruder as a direct drive extruder. You can reuse the extruder and stepper motor.

You will neet to unmount the whole stock hotend and fans and also remove the 90 degree angeled plate. Also I recommend to put in the screws for the 3 wheels the other way round to get a lower profile.

Then mount the backplate using the 2 M3x8 screws at where the extruder will be later. The 2 M3x16 screws and hexagon nuts are meant to hold also the parts fan duct at the bottom holes.

Use the top between extruder and stepper motor just like it is mounted at the stock position. The hotend fits directly into the extruder at the position where the bowden tube outlet was.

After that put together backplate and top using the 4 M3x12 screws.

As this version does not have an attached cable chain element, I recommend to use this mount: https://www.printables.com/de/model/291309-anycubic-mega-x-hotend-cable-chain-mount

Otherwise you need to organize the cables yourself.

I do not have a satifactory solution for the cable management of the connector plate, therefore it looks still a little bit messy.

BOM:

  • 2x M3x16 screw
  • 4x M3x12 screw
  • 2x M3x8 screw
  • 2x M3 hexagon nut
  • small piece of PTFE bowden tube for inside of the hotend
  • 50cm extention cable for stepper motor (I just soldered it myself)

Warning:

Added some pictures as proof of work ;)
