When I saw the moon model I knew it was a must have For my soon to be born newborn's nursery.  I designed this ring  eliminate upward light leakage and to seat the Hue Bulb perfectly In the ideal position when hanging overhead from a recessed light fitting.

My vision for The moon light was to integrate a Phillips Hue smart bulb so that I could achieve The perfect dimness and color hue utilizing the Philips Hue app.  Even if the bulb is installed on a lighting circuit with other overhead lights it can be individually controlled (and set on a timer as an added bonus).  You can even change the color to something like red to simulate Mars, On that note you could print multiple moon models in different scales to simulate different planets with different colors all in the same room!

Side note: As soon as I turned it on to test it the cat jumped into her bed underneath it and started “kneading” her bed, I think she thinks it is the ultimate full moon!

Anyhow here's what you need to know:

  • At 100% scale, the moon model will accommodate a standard Philips you bulb, it's a very tight fit but it will pop in the moon modal “as printed” @ 100% scale.  Alternatively, you could shave the edges to the entry hole a bit, maybe a millimeter or so, and The bulb will slide right in.
  • Once the bulb is in the “moon” slide the ring into place.
  • As shown in the photo you will need a cheap socket extension, this is the one I found on Amazon, it is white and fits very nicely aesthetically: LINK

Please post your makes And let me know if you decide to hang your moon!  Let me know if you have any questions or need any modified versions.
