I've started planting bird feeders around my neighborhood, ensuring they're all stocked up with seeds because winter is coming.
My design should be able to snap on most US street U channel posts.

Wanna help?

This model is made of 2 parts:

  1.  a “seed tank” with a “tail” that's meant to be inserted in the hole of a street post, and a perforated bottom to let the rain drain through.
  2. a “brace” that clips on both edges of the post and holds the tank against it.

SEED TANK

You can print the tank without support and at .35mm layer height. However, in order to make the bottom of the feeder perforated, when slicing the model, you must:

  • set the horizontal shells top and bottom to 0
  • pick a grid-like infill pattern (in my case, honeycomb)
  • set the fill density to about %40

BRACE

You can print the brace without support and at .35mm layer height.

To make the top of both STLs smoother, you can add detail by setting the top layers to be thinner, thanks to the PrusaSlicer variable layer height feature. I'm including Gcodes reflecting those settings, for a MK2.5S printer.

I've fancied printing the tank and the brace in colors close to one another but you do you!

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT:

  • YOU'RE USING ECO-FRIENDLY PLA
  • YOU KEEP YOUR FEEDER STOCKED UP WITH SAFE FOOD FOR BIRDS AND IF YOU STOP TENDING TO IT, PLEASE DISCARD IT RESPONSIBLY
  • YOU AVOID PLACING IT OVER LOCKED BIKES…

Feel free to tag @3Dfiti if you slap one on out there and end up posting on the Internet! The birds and I are counting on you.
