Unfortunately the cheap slotted metal shelves rarely come with plastic feet to not scratch your floor and never leveling feet. They are also split in half vertically rarely come with a coupler. This requires a shelf to be placed in between the halves to lock them together which can mess up your shelf placement if you are particular.
I wasn't having either of these limitations. I created jigs to mass modify heavy duty leveling feet and plain steel angle to mount to brackets. I originally made these for an new set of Edsal brand shelving. Later I remade the jigs for and unknown brand shelf set I was given that has slightly different spacing.
Usage:
- Index the jig onto the outside corner
- foot - rest jig on foot flange
- coupler - rest jig flange on end of angle
- indicator marks on the jigs will guide
- Center punch jig holes onto angle/foot
- spring loaded center punches work best to make initial mark
- (coupler only) Mark end of jig on angle length
- Drill marked holes
- 7mm gave appropriate wiggle room for screws/bolts
- (coupler only) Cut marked end of angle
Hardware:
- 32mm corner leveling feet. Goes by brands Antrader, Piutouyar and others.
- 1 x 1/8 inch steel angle. Amazon
- 1/4-20 screws/bolts and nuts
- coupler - 1/2 inch bolt
- coupler connecting shelves - 1 inch screw
- foot - 1/2 inch screw
- foot connecting shelves - 3/4 inch screw
- connecting shelves - 3/4 inch screw
- 1/4-20 washers
- nylon washer outside (on shelving)
- four nylon washers between coupled shelves
