Printed a whole gaggle of these guys for my son's class. 10/10 would recommend!

I am having trouble printing the spring for the bobblehead. The ends of the spring are the only parts that adhere to the bed on the first layer. The middle of the spring doesn't start printing until the 2nd or 3rd layer, so it is extruding filament in midair and not forming a smooth shape. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Posting the solution here, just in case others have this issue.

Ultimately a slightly thicker spring was created using the custom spring tool: https://www.printables.com/model/282561

The initial problem is likely due to elephant foot compensation, or similar slicer overrides that automatically scale down the first few layers of a print.

Thanks @mhlibrary_2441960 for trying out all the troubleshooting ideas!

@3DPrinty thanks for your suggestions. My print is working well now. Included a before after photo of my problem and final make photos.

This nice little friend oversees all my prints now

@PeterAwesome_1791401 Wonderful! Always nice to have someone keeping an eye on the printer ;)

Awesome design, base could be wider to prevent tip over.

@ScooterMAC_939554 Glad you like it - the blue spring is a nice contrast with the black ghost.

Here are some alternate bases you might like

You can even use OpenSCAD to customize the base to any size you need :)

Nice print for Halloween. Added some color (paint) to it which made it pop even more. Print is done with a glow in the darf filament.

The Halloween set is complete! Thanks for making all of them :)

Cute as hell. Easy clean print.

Such a suitable description for these sweet specters :)

Awesome print! Thank you for your hard work on this! Printed just in time for Halloween.

Always happy to provide some last second printer projects :) Great prints!

I made a whole bunch of these. I will hand them out to the neighborhood kids. They love the little presents like these.

@DeeJay_NL That's great! Thank you for printing and gifting :)
