I had an unfortunate mishap with the genuine mastercore reusable spool solution where the cardboard side came off. Filament everywhere and became knotted. This design should stop that.

Design should be self explanatory.

notes:

  • 4mm reel sides, 64mm x 200mm outside dimensions
  • 56mm minimum core width. Being a threaded design it will fit wider sizes.
  • 86mm female OD (to fit inside cardboard center core)
  • 55mm ID spool holder
  • 10mm wide channels to allow for cable/velcro ties
  • fits inside eSun eBox lite drier.

Test print settings, based on a pre-release version:

  • 0.4mm nozzle, 0.24 layers, 4 perimeters
  • 20% cubic infill
  • PLA
  • Published print has had some changes mostly around thread design, so 3 perimeters should now be suitable.

rough print times:

male: 8.5h, female 11.5h

changelog:

v1.3

  • increase thread tolerance from 0.3 to 1mm which should help larger nozzle prints. Male side untouched; all tolerance adjustments are done on the female side threads.
  • added a half-length threaded male piece to improve print speed, redue filament usage and the additional length just isn't needed. Untested but should work fine!
  • reduced reel diameter from 200mm, to 198mm. didnt quite fit the eSun ebox light perfectly.
  • increased reel side thickness to 4mm (from 3mm) to add additional stiffness.

v1.2

  • change female part to include an 8mm lead-in for threads. hopefully makes engaging threads easier.

v1.1

  • increase elongated holes in sides to allow easier use of cable ties & tweaked channel design slightly to accomodate this.
