A parametric self watering planter with probe, for round planters. Prints without Supports, all 3 parts in one go.

The planter has a dedicated funnel for watering direct to the reservoir, and a probe that will allow to monitor the remaining water in the tank. A cup allows the roots to reach the water or the water to moist the soil. It can be watered also directly on the soil with the excess water ending in the reservoir anyway.  

Part Customization

The main parameters are:

D top internal diameter.

h internal height.

d bottom internal diameter.

The parameters measure the “hole” inside the planter, the internal measurements.

The provided sample files are for D=150, h=140, d=115. 

Other secondary parameters may also be tuned, such as wall thickness, relative dimensions of the various features. 

Depending on the shape of your pot some features may collapse, for example the watering funnel may disappear depending on h, play with the draft angle of the funnel in that case.

 

Printing

I printed using 0.2 SPEED Prusa profile with the following modifications:

  • The probe needs to float and be water tight. So I changed to 4 perimeters and 6 bottom and top layers. Infill 5%
  • Reduced infill of the main POT to 10%
