Bambu Lab Re-Usable Spool STEP

In a failed search for a STEP-file of the Bambu Lab Spool, I decided to model one.

Update 11102022: DOWNLOAD NEW Infill Pattern file, since old one could break more easily.

On the spool with infill pattern, I noticed the infill section could “pop out” - Added a “wedge” to make it more embedded. Seems like to two parts, even though printed right next to each other, doesn't weld together that well.

Update 10102022:

I made a 3MF-file available, where you can choose your preferred infill pattern, to give the spool your own touch. The slicer gives you a warning about collision, but you can disregard this warning.

Go in Objects → Pick “Infill Pattern” → Go nuts.

General Changes

After printing the original stock spool, I found a few things that, in my opinion, needed tweaking. So I tightened up some tolerances, to make the rotate-and-lock a bit more tight and snappy. Also changed a few features to fit my liking.

I also added a tag design, for easy interchangeable identification of the material in the spool.

Stock

The BL_Spool_Wide/Narrow files is a close to identical model to the original. I made this as a STEP to make it easier for designers, to make changes to the design in a CAD environment.

I added the tag system to the stock spool as well, with a STEP-file.

Remix

My attempt at a custom spool. I included the approximate filament meassuring, with the closest ring being 200g, increasing at 200g increments. These are not accurate, just to get an estiamate! I also tried to cut off some filament usage, while maintaining enough strength in the spool design. Adding more holes to the outer diameter, for securing the filament during storage, was also greatly needed, in my opinion!

With Bambu Labs selling alot of its filament without spools, I figured it'd be nice to have a way to distinguish the different materiels, by just changing a simple component.

I have made tags for all the (current) filaments, that Bambu Lab sells without spools, plus some extra because why not.

These are meant to be printed with the AMS (or any other MMU system), as the letters are seperate objects.

In Bambu Studio, after importing the model, you right-click → Split → To Objects. From here you just have to assign the objects to the correct color.

Added 3MF-file for the TPU tag.

Conclusion

The motivation for this was to give people access, to easily make their own custom spools. As Bambu sell more and more filament, I also see a need for more of these to circulate the community. I hope some crazy design come from this!

I had great success printing this in PLA.

HAPPY PRINTING!

P.S. Please let me know if there are screwups, since this this is my first released design. Hopefully nothing too bad :)
