Introduction

This is a quick and fun print which can be used as a filament sample but also a keyring. It takes advantage of the layer lines to create the ‘spool’ with miniature filament winding appearance. A fun addition to any makers keys!

Printing

The bottom and top parts should be printed with a small layer height to ensure high quality for these parts. I used a .4mm nozzle with a .3mm line width and a .2mm layer height. Print both parts with the large flat surface on the bed to avoid having to use supports.

The spool itself should be printed with nice fat layers so they stand out. This gives the appearance of filament wound around the spool. Because the top and bottom of the filament are partially visible, I used a concentric top and bottom pattern so it too looks like filament wound around the spool.

My spool was printed on a .4mm nozzle with .4mm line height and width.

Construction

Pretty simple to put together, push the filament onto either the top or bottom part and then snap the other side in place. When adding this to your keychain, be careful with the keychain attachment point as this is quite a thin part.
