DJI's mini 3 pro drone has no internal fan. When powered up but not flying, the drone tends to overheat and shut down after some minutes. This can be very annoying, especially during firmware upgrades.

This model is a drone display stand and cooling tower in one.  The mini 3 pro can be placed on it with or without gimbal protection. A standard 80 mm PC fan gives it enough ventilation when needed.

The assembly is easy:

  1. print the model 😉
  2. re-thread the four screwholes for the fan with a metal 4 mm screw or a tap
  3. cut away the fan's plug
  4. mount the fan so, that the cables (only red & black needed) come close to where the switch and Jack sit on the inside
  5. insert switch
  6. insert DC jack (it's a pess fit) with some glue
  7. solder the cables (see: schematic wiring diagram), add some heat shrink tube
  8. test that it's working
  9. glue the electrics cover in place
  10. add some rubber pads under the tower

I've printed electrics cover first and then the tower separately and recommend this to you, too. – So you can check the printer setting a last time before you start the (quite lengthy) print of the tower itself. (btw I used Eryone grey PLA)

The print files attached include basically all the setting I used for printing; I only changed seam position to random, so that you don't get that visible line of seams.

Extra parts needed:

  • 1 × 80 mm PC fan
  • 4 × screws 4×25 mm (Nylon)
  • 1 × DC jack 5.5×2.1 mm (see: screenshot amazon)
  • 1 × mini switch 12.5×8 mm (see: screenshot ebay)
  • 1 × power supply 5.5×2.1 mm plug (e. g. 12 V / 0.5 A)
  • optional: rubber pads for under the tower to stand on
  • some glue and a soldering iron

If you like this model please give it a like and share photos of your make with us. I'm very curious to see what color you choose for your cooling tower. – Thanks and have a good time! 👍

Update – my basic print settings were: PLA 0.2 mm layer height; 2 perimeters; 5 % cubic infill; snug support with 2.5 mm spacing.
