Yet another holder for big spools. The intention is to make it easy to swap spool (using rod+pin, rather than screws).

No bearings required. Large and stable. Split into parts, so that it can print on an Ultimaker 2+ or Prusa i3 MK3S.

~Requires gluing, alternatively living on the edge.~ I've been using one without glue, no problem.

Printed on an Ultimaker 2+:

  • nozzle 0.8 mm
  • layer height 0.6 mm
  • Line width 0.8 mm

The parts should be symmetrical, but since I had all of them in my model, I created and printed several stl.

Source in onshape: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/62e9d834312b31e5cd41b67b/v/b126731576431465e1080ae6/e/2bb99a9bae1128a043dd2edd

The stl files have a gap between the split parts for fitting, here 0.3 mm. If you want to change the gap size for looser or tighter fit, go to the onshape project above and change the variable "split_margin". See the screenshot in the last picture. Then go to the bottom left (part list) and right click export the parts.

I had to file some edges, but I was printing fat and fast.

EDIT: added extra sleeve to match spool inside diameter better, and let print layers go with the rotation of the spool, in order to reduce friction.
