UPDATE 9/8/22:
- Better tolerances on all assembly pieces
- Back button made thicker to avoid transparency with lighter color filaments
- Main body without money clip version added
This popular wallet model is now available to assemble after print! Now you can operate the pop-up mechanism smoothly!
I managed to print the original, but the print in place mechanism was a little too rough for me to enjoy. Can somewhat be expected with print in place models. I cut up the model and made it press fit together after printing. The result is a much cleaner print, and now any worry of fusing can be forgotten! (I also removed the holes on the back that were needed to push apart any fusing)
Printing Notes / Assembly / Ideas:
- To maintain the texture on the lever I printed it in a vertical orientation with supports. (The same as shown in the picture with the file name “TEXTURED_LEVER_WALLETREMIX.STL")
- The main wallet body still requires to be printed upright so the clip can print correctly.
- The most difficult part of assembly is pushing the inside fan to the bottom right corner of the print. More finicky than difficult. I used some allen keys to assist me.
- Assembly is press fit. I assembled mine without any glue, but time will tell if this is sufficient. To fully seat the 3 pieces together, after pushing everything together by hand I laid the wallet “BACK_BUTTON” side up and gave the button a few little whacks with a small hammer.
- If the tolerances are too small to press fit together, the lever file can be scaled down slightly for an easier fit and shouldn't be noticeable. (Try not to scale down the axis with the cross that extends through to the back button though!)
- Try printing the lever and/or button in a different color as an accent!
- The lever is now independent and can be remixed with different textures or designs!
