Edit: The original design still didn't have enough friction to keep spools from unwinding, so I redesigned with the arm a bit shorter and added a “cleaner” section that sandwiches the filament in between two pieces of foam. This does two things: “cleans” the filament and adds some resistance.
Once I printed and installed the Universal Filament Spool Holder 2 (https://www.printables.com/model/66440-universal-filament-spool-holder-gen-2) it spun just a wee bit too easy. I figured I needed a filament guide, and didn't like the options I found out there for the Kobra.
This guide has a print-in-place ball that is sized to fit a small piece of teflon tube. It mounts to the small 3mm hole that is already in the OEM Kobra spool holder arm. The pieces snap together (it may require some force). Place the heatset insert into the main arm FIRST.
The “cleaner” model uses 3x3 magnets to hold the halves together. They should press into place firmly. Make sure the polarities are matching or the pieces will repel and not attract. I find it helpful to put a dot of sharpie on the inner face of the magnet. Some small pieces of sponge/foam are inserted into the cleaner portion. Medium density seems to work well.
You will need the following:
- M3x12 screw (washer optional)
- M3x6 heatset insert
- short piece of 4mm OD PTFE teflon tube (optional-ish)
If using the “Cleaner” model:
- 8x magnets, 3x3mm
- Foam pieces (2x of 5x10x15mm)
