This is my first attempt at creating a design for shaping tessellated clay tiles using clay slab and a rolling pin.

I made 3 models to test out at 2 different depths

At 5mm deep: standard tile and filletted edge

At 6mm deep: chamfered edge

I use a rolling pin with a thin slab to roll clay into the mold; much easier than using the mold to cut into the clay for this particular design (like a cookie cutter), I think.

Notes after first use:

  • I found that the filleted edge worked the best for me (see the pictures for the finished products)
  • The standard tile stuck a bit more to the frame and had a sharper edge
  • The chamfered edge was a bit finicky but might work with a bit more care
