UPDATE: I returned the Teenii T1, because it didn't work well for my purposes. It seems that you can no longer buy it and the manufacturer site is dead, but I'm leaving this model up anyway.

---

These sound dampeners are for the Teenii T1 Mechanical Keypad. It's a great device, but makes some truly horrible noises when the keycaps bottom out.

Instead of adding o-rings to the keycap stems, I designed TPU sound dampers that fit around the switch clusters. When the switches are pressed, all four sides make contact with the dampeners, which absorb the impact and prevent the awful clacking sound.

These probably won't fit any other keyboards or keypads, but I thought I'd post them to give people ideas (and, of course, for other Teenii T1 owners).

Print settings

The sound dampeners print upside down, and measure 1.4mm in height. I didn't find that I needed any more height than that to dampen the key noise. There are only seven layers at 0.2mm, so I just printed them solid.

I printed in transparent green TPU, and I like that I can see the green through the keyboard. I might reprint some of the clusters in blue and red just for the heck of it. It subtly mimics the effects of LED lights (which the T1 doesn't have).

I found that some dampeners fit better than others, which I attribute to my aging TPU filament and minor differences in the switch positions. I used double-sided tape to help keep a couple of them in place, but the others fit like gloves.
