This thing was designed to accommodate this 12V to USB 5V socket https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6S2SNM
But I'm sure it will work with other sockets as well.
Its meant to bring power under the dash so my devices have a closer access to power. its designed to slide over the plastic panel and can be placed anywhere where panels like that are available.
I ran my wires from the other 12V socket.
I used PETG for heat resistance.
