iPhone DSLR Camera Rig

The iPhone DLSR Rig is a psuedo-case for your iPhone. 

I made it so I can easily switch my phone between this and my normal case. 

I looked at my Canon DLSR and stole the features I really wanted. 

Here are the top features: 

• Both ¼ and ⅜ inch tripod thread
• 2 cold shoes for mounting accessories 
• Add an external microphone 
• Neck strap / lanyard 
• 67mm filter thread (for variable ND filter) 
• Chunky grip handle like Canon 5D 

Bill of Material (what you need) 

• Cheap phone case. Something with a flat back. Nothing with a groove or ridge. I got this one on amazon for literally £2.50. 
• Glue. Hot glue or epoxy is good. It needs to be semi-flexible. Because the case flexes. Superglue works but it's not a long-term solution 
• PLA or PETG 100g.

Why aren't all the models up yet? 

• I still need to make a parametric version of the design. 
• That way I can make many sizes of it available. Without doing the same work over and over. 
• I hope to get this done before Friday 29th July. 

Why shooting video on iPhone is great?

I got an iPhone 13 this year.

I'm blown away by the camera. I'm now shooting all my videos on it. Instead of using a DSLR. 

Being able to shoot a video and Airdrop it to my MacBook works great for me. 

You can also mirror your iPhone's display to a MacBook. I use this as a wireless monitor for framing a shot. 

But there are some killer features of a DSLR I wanted to have on my phone when filming. 
So I made this Camera Rig and I slip my iPhone into on days I'm filming.
